How do I replace the cabin air filter?

Many newer cars include a cabin air filter which filters the air going through the interior air system. This is for human comfort, as opposed to the air filter most every car has that filters the air going into the engine. Eventually the filter must be replaced. Where is it located and how does one replace it? Thanks to anyone who can help.

Hi,

What you need to do is remove all of your possessions in the glove box area and you will either need your fingers or a "+" head, short screw driver to remove the absorber arm on the right side of the glove box.

once the absorber is removed from the glove box let it drop down to the carpet and you'll see the blower motor housing and a bunch of wires. the tray for the filter should either be white or black. you will see tabs on either side of the tray's face, squeeze them together and slide the tray out.

Once you see the filter, remember the way it rests in the tray for this is the best way to filter the air going through the cabin.

Also note on the side of the new filter will show you an "UP" arrow. make sure the arrow is facing up in the tray!

Thank you for the detailed explanation. I was able to do this without disconnecting the absorber arm, but I think I ran a risk of damaging it and I had to support the glove box while I changed the filter. Wow was it dirty at 45K miles. I will be checking it every 10K now.

By the way, you can get the filters from the dealer, from car parts stores and even from online allergy websites.

Looks as though it is behind the glove box.
