Power button not working, all other keys ok?

Hey guys

Just got this MBA and it had some heavy liquid ingress. Luckily it happened when the laptop had run out of battery and no attempt to turn it on since.

It cleaned up just fine and everything works great, just the power button doesn't work at all. I have to power on using the jumper pads on the logic board.

I have tested every other key and every single one works which leads me to believe there is some sort of fuse or mechanism triggered when the system detects a short i.e. liquid.

It must be before the logic board as the power jumper pads still works. I'm hesitant to say a keyboard replacment will do it but I guess it might.

Anyone have experience with this?

Well I checked the pins for the power button for continuity when I pushed the button and got nothing so I knew it had to be the keyboard. I popped off the power key and carfully removed the little rubber button. This left the actual contact exposed and pushing hard on this powers up the machine. I just glued in a very small piece of plastic to the underside of the key and now I can use the power button again :) I guess a bit of liquid did just get into the power button so actually, a new keyboard would have sorted it.

Could be the power button got wet and shorted out… could be the connector or ribbon cable is damaged. You need a new top case (keyboard included) the keyboard alone would not fix this.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.
