Why will my washing machine not agitate?

I have a Kenmore HD 70 Series Model 110 Serial #CC0550858. Whenever I load a load of laundry, small or medium size, it fills, but will not agitate. Any suggestions?

It's spins and drains but didn't agitate.

The lid switch is working.

What is next to check

I have a Kenmore Elite HE vertical modular washer which stopped agitating but would spin and drain. I could hear the motor running when it was in agitating mode but it was not agitating. When the washer emptied, I pushed down on the wash plate and spinned it and could hear it actually scraping on the mount below which supported it. I removed the washplate and cleaned all of the gunk off of it from the use of fabric softener as well as off of the mount the wash plate sits on. In the center of the washplate is a (mechanical) spline where I could see the teeth had completely worn down & the surface was smooth. This meant the washplate spline could not grip the teeth on the shaft which the washplate is centered around and which engages during agitation. The teeth on the shaft were still in good condition so I needed to replace the washplate which contained a new spline with teeth. The repair was simple and it corrected the problem.

I have this same problem, I replaced the thing under the washplate, did not fix it. It tries to agitate and catches every now and then during the cycle, any suggestions?

Why will the door not open? I have a Kenmore Triple Action Agitator 3.5 washing machine

I have a Kenmore 110 washer and everything on it works great except for when it goes to "agitate"It barely moves back and forth. I've checked the wire harness which seems to be fine and the belt is fine and all the research I've done has made it seem like itsy the drive motor but drive motor seems fine. I'm trying to figure out how to test it with the multimeter but I have no experience with this so I'm a little nervous to do that. Any suggestions?

If your Kenmore 110 Series Washing Machine refuses to spin or agitate during the wash cycle, see the Kenmore 110 Series Washing Machine Doesn’t Spin or Agitate problem page for possible causes and solutions.

Drive Block or Bell

If the washer won't agitate the drive block or bell might be worn out or broken. The drive block connects the washer transmission to the agitator, if it's worn out the transmission shaft will still move back and forth but the agitator will either stay still or move slightly.

Door Lock Motor and Switch Assembly

If the washer won't agitate the door lock assembly should be checked. The door lock can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any switches on the door lock with an Ohm meter. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Door or Lid Latch Assembly

If the washer won't agitate the lid switch assembly might be defective. This is a very common problem. The lid switch assembly can fail either mechanically or electrically. Test any electrical switches with an Ohm meter for continuity. The switches should have continuity according to their design.

Motor Coupling

If the washer won't agitate the motor coupling might have failed. The motor coupling connects the motor to the washer transmission. It is designed to fail if the washer is overloaded in order to protect both the motor and transmission.

Drive Belt

If the washer won't agitate the drive belt might have worn out. Over time the drive belt will fail just from normal use . Replace the belt every two or three years depending on how much the washer is used.

Motor Control Board

If the washer won't agitate the motor control board might be defective. The motor control board provides power to the motor as well as direction and force. If the motor control board is defective the washer may not work at all or function properly.

U-Joint Kit

If the washer is won't agitate the U-Joint may have failed. This is the primary drive mechanism for the agitation motion in this washer. Although this is not a very difficult repair for a DIY'er with some experience, the part is expensive and so it may be worth considering a new washer.

Drive Motor

If the washer won't agitate the drive motor might be defective. This is not common. Check all of the other related parts to this symptom before replacing the motor. If the motor is visibly burned out or physically damaged it will have to be replaced.

Stator Assembly

If the washer won't agitate the stator assembly at the back of the washer tub might be bad or damaged. The rotor is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the rotor fails or is damaged the washer might not spin or agitate. Check the rotor for damaged magnets or other defects.

Rotor Assembly

If the washer won't agitate the rotor assembly at the back of the washer tub might be bad or damaged. The rotor is essentially one half of a motor, it interacts with the tub by creating a strong electro-magnet. If the rotor fails or is damaged the washer might not spin or agitate. Check the rotor for damaged magnets or other defects.

Mine was barely turning last week and was repaired with an Agitator Repair Kit

If the washer won't agitate this agitator repair kit may solve the problem. The kit contains the components that wear out over time. This is a relatively easy repair.

My washer fills and runs through the cycle, but there is no agitation or sound or smell during the agitation cycle. Everything just totally still. Every other phase of the cycle seems to work fine, including spin.

Dan sounds like you need an agitator kit.

Most of the time, in my experience , check the simplest things first. The belt might need to be adjusted. The next thing I would check is the lid switch and it's plastic activation tip. Sometimes the switch itself can move out of adjustment. If this is the case use a small wooden dowel or a plastic spoon handle and push down till it you hear a click. Be gentil and try several times. Be sure that the timer has moved to the proper position or nothing will work

Washer Agitator goes very slowly. Belt is okay, door switch, okay. Fills, drains, spins is okay. Just slow agitation. ??
