Screen Displays but is unresponsive to touch.

I am attempting to replace the screen of my iPod Touch 4th Generation. At first the screen was just black. After setting for awhile I tried turning it on again, but this time the empty battery appeared on the screen.

I plugged it in to charge, and later when I turned it on the screen sprang to life. It responded to touch, I tested everything and it all worked. I began to reassemble it and turned it on again, but this time even though the screen initiated it did not respond to touch anymore so that I could not unlock it.

I thought perhaps the connection had become unseated so I took it apart again re-seated the plugs, and get the same thing. Ever since that earlier time when everything worked and the screen responded to touch I can not get it to respond to touch any more. It displays the initial unlock screen, but no touch. I've tried re-seating the connector several times!!!!!!!!

I know everything works. But can't get the screen to work properly. What is wrong?? What can I do??

The parts were ordered from Injured Gadgets at injuredgadgets.com. However I should add that I have found the solution. For all my attempts I just wasn't attaching the screen connector properly (until it solidly clicked into place). Now it is fine, and reassembled.

The only problem I continue to have is that the screen is not quite (almost but not quite) seated as flush as it was before. If I attempt to get any better the screen turns white. But it's so close I suppose I should just settle. I did loose the camera somewhere along the way, but everything else works fine.

That's great that you figure it out! If you can not get the screen to sit flush there are a few ways to solve that. If the corners are dented in take the screen off and using a flat head and a hammer bang out the corners to make then rounded correctly. Also there is a metal clip that at the top of the screen that you need to transfer from the original screen to the new screen this helps the top stay down. And the rest is adhered. Lay abrasive at the bottom (both sides of the home button). Make sure it is clean (no old adhesive behind or any glass. These should fix that issue of it not sitting flush. Any more questions don't hesitate to ask. Congrats on successfully replacing the screen yourself! I've only heard of a few people doing it without breaking something on the iPod or breaking the entire iPod itself.

It can possibly be a defective screen, or you may have damaged the board somewhere, or you may have damaged the digitizer. Look somewhere on the board to see if you see any scratches or resistors that have been knocked off. Where did you order the part from, if you don't mind me asking?
