My lock/silent swith is faulty what do I need to replace?

At the moment my lock button has started to recess and can only be used if pushed in a very specific way. Also the silent switch turns to loud perfectly how ever when I try to switch to silent if pushed too far it returns to loud again... My question is what do I have to replace? Is it the cover thats warn, buttons themselves or the connecting ribbons?

I'm assuming it's not the ribbon that needs replacing other it wouldn't work at all...

As you can see here : iPhone 3GS Mute Button Replacement , the iPhone mute button is an independant part that is currently used with a normal use. It can easily be replaced. There are no reason for your cover to be broken but mabe could you give us some pictures ?

You may follow this guide to replace it : iPhone 3GS Mute Button Replacement

Hoping to have helped you !

Thanks very much, I did consider just replacing the switch as I've taken it out to clean it up before to no sucess. I was just thinking the switch is metal so is less prone to ware than the case...
