Very broken iPhone 4 - transfer motherboard to different iPhone?

Hi,

I'm sad to say that my poor iPhone 4 is in a very sorry state. :(

My list of faults are as follows:

  • Volume up/down buttons do not 'click' and therefore do not work.
  • Power button has same problem
  • Home button stiff/sticky/unresponsive
  • Silent switch sort of works but is oversensitive and phone switches modes on its own.

My question is, if I was to buy a 'faulty for parts' iPhone 4 on eBay, i.e. with "won't switch on" or 'can't activate on iTunes" problems, could I simply transfer the motherboard (brain) from my current iPhone to the new iPhone (body) and have everything work as normal again?

Or is there something that I'm not considering here?

Many thanks in advance,

Lewis

As long as you get the same one. The frames and components are different for the CDMA iphone 4 versus the GSM iphone 4. So be sure you are getting the right phone.

Also, make sure when you buy a parts phone it actually powers on if possible. That way you should be able to ensure the Charge Dock and Battery still function and the screen works. Then yes, you could put your motherboard into the other "phone" and make it work.

Hope this helps!
