When putting back panel iPhone turns off

Hello everybody,

firstly sorry for my english because i come from Switzerland but i'll do my best :-)

I have a big big problem that never happened to me!

I have an iphone 4 which if i put on it the rear panel it turns off by itself! And when the back panel is on it it doesnt' turn on!!

Simply when i remove the back panel than the iphone turns on with by pushing on the power button or via usb.

Anyone can help me?? I changed battery to try to fix this problem but nothing changed.... this sounds really really really strange, doesn't it?

Okay... seems to work like that! I putted a kind of "separation" made of simply white paper between the back panel and the entire iphone like motherboard, battery, ecc...

It seems to work fine for now like that!! I think this is not a definitively solution. Do you have one? May I have to put just some adhesive tape?

I have to sell this phone...is it possible to do that?

THANKS

check that the grounding clip is not loose. Also gently wiggle the battery ribbon cable (and connector on the board), it could have a slight tear -- meaning when you slide on the back it could be pushing the battery and moving around the cable.

Your backpanel might short-ciruit something in the phone. Try with a 2x2cm-ish piece of paper and put it in different places inside the phone before putting the back panel back on. If it doesn't turn off, you might have found your problem (but not the solution, having a piece of paper in your phone is not a good idea, lol).

If you find the component that doesn't want to touch the back panel (yes, components have feelings too... well, at least resistance (OH MY GOD, I'm Hillarious)).

Try adhesive tape or something more "professional" if/when you find the problem.

okay... well I tought about that! But back panel is plastic and the plastic is the same like the paper... So im not gonna resolve my problem! Probably is on the side of the phone when you put in the back panel and you hear "clack"...

I really don't know what to do... I am going to search this problem, but fixing it will be a big mess

Well, on the backside there is a spot that conducts electricity (The part that's over the battery).

If you tape that part, and then but the backside on, does it still turn off? If not, there's your problem.

Are you missing any parts at the battery connector?

And is it completely dead? I mean, are you sure it's not just the LCD that goes out?

Nono, eheh too simply like that ;-) I repaired a lot of iphone... know i resolved putting "separation" between the back panel and the entire iphone. Look on the top of my post for the update.

any suggestions?

HI,

I had same problem. I found out that sliding back cover pushed battery towards bottom against the cable. If battery is glued properly to back panel and towards slightly upper end of the space provided..solves the problem. New battery don't have sticky material on back, so those easily slide to bottom and push the cable. If you push battery manually without back cover same thing happens proving the problem. tx

Hi

I had the same problem the solution to the problem lies with the safety device situated under the battery connector the small spring like clip

The only function of this clip I would say is to cut the power to the phone should the battery connector overheat.

In the event of the battery connector getting to hot the spring clip expands and cuts the power supply to prevent damage or fire.

I would not recommend placing any insulating material over this clip to isolate the function.

Press lightly on the clip to allow a small gap between the clip and back cover.

This solved my problem.
