HDD problem in iMac 2012 Late 21.5"

Hello. In my new iMac 2012 late ( CORE I5/GT640M/8MB/1TB HDD) broke down (fly) native-internal hard drive 1TB 5400 RMP.

Please tell me which model of the hard disk can be put back in place of the broken one and whether it would not be a problem with the fans and firmware.

I wanted to change on their own without the service center, since I live in the boonies where there is no a Apple service center.

Please help with advice on the hard disk, and then sit now with a broken computer. Sorry for my English. Thank you.

What happened to your system that would cause the hard disk to die? I would strongly recommend seeing if Apple will service this under warranty first.

I agree - check with Apple about warranty coverage. They may be able to do this via UPS or USPS.

Thanks for the tips. I'll try to do as you say, but if something does not come I would like to know what some model 2,5 hard disk drive which exactly it will do. Who knows please let me know.

p.s. as the hard disk drive my inner worked up about a month, and then there were loud clicks, then a strong crack and all and died. Bad blocks in the boot and other sectors, that will only help his replacement

Thank you very much for the reply and advice.

Another question if I may, there was such an idea, is it possible to connect an external usb 2.0/3.0 HDD or external usb SDD and use it as a system, the main hard disk

da

Yes, if you must you can use an external HD via Thunderbolt (best), FireWire or USB3 (next best) USB2 or 1 (slowest). SSD drives are different than a flash drive (thumb drive) both are solid state devices but SSD's are a better choice for constant read/write events a start up disk would go though. A flash drive is not designed to handle the same level of transitions over time.

Roy - Your system is so new I don't know which 3rd party has even tested their drives in it yet.

You also have some mechanical issues here as the HD mounting is very different than what has been used before. Review the iFixIt guide.

You really need to get your system to Apple. I promise you Apple will exchange out under warranty Free ! the HD if it's defective (which from your symptoms it sure sounds like it is).

Please don't try opening it up as you don't want to give Apple a reason why they should refuse to repair this under warranty.
