LED shows green but says no available battery and wont charge?

My Charge indicator shows green but my computer says "no available battery. My computer will work while plugged into AC power, but will immediately shut off when unplugged. I don't think it is the battery as usually they don't go suddenly. Right before this happened the battery was charging really slowly for a day. I have tried restarting the SMC. Is this the DC charge board? is this something I can fix? I am a Peace Corps volunteer serving in Peru and there is a lack of apple technicians here. Please help.

I forgot to mention that I did pay someone to open up the computer and clean out the fan about a week before the problems started. Could this be related?

Do you have friends or family here in the states you could send your system so they could get it to an Apple Store here? Your system maybe covered under warranty otherwise it will be expensive to get the battery pack replaced if that has gone on you.

The battery could be damaged that can happen suddenly - especially if something heavy was put on the unit or if the unit was squeezed into a cramped space. I had similar "no battery found" or the dreaded X in the menu bar after my MacBook Air was damaged in an airline overhead storage bin. Took a while to identify the source of the problem and it took actually lifting the battery out to see that it had a crack across it.

Thanks. I am going to travel to town tomorrow and try to get the tools to open up the computer. I know that the battery uses torx screws, Can a Allen wrench fit in those screws as well? Do you know what sizes I will need to get into the computer and remove the battery? Everything is a little more complicated living in the country side of Peru.

No torx≠allen one is star shaped the other is squared off. Do not remember the sizes but the guide says: MacBook-Air-5-Point-Pentalobe-Screwdriver, T5, T8 and a Spudger (plastic wedge like a putty knife).
