Is A Blackened Heatsink Still OK To Use?

I am replacing my logic board as my macbook died, and I have noticed that the heatsink has turned black along the top (its still mostly copper, but 2-3cms of it has gone black (as has a bit of the surrounding casing) but there is no heat damage to the logic board. Is it ok to use this heatsink with my new logic board, or does this blackening mean its damaged in some way? I've got a photo of the heatsink (still connected to the fan) here http://mc.tt/02OFIdcSDw

Hope someone can help! Thank you!

Your heatsink seems to be in perfect condition, just remove the old paste on the two copper pads and clean them with isopropyl alcohol before reinstalling the module on the processor and the graphic chip. I would also detach the fan from the heatsink, open it (unscrew the two small philips screws) and clean the inside with a Q-tip and isopropyl alcohol. Pay attention to heatsink vent, it must be clean, free of dust before installation. For a better cooling and performance use the Artic Silver 5 processor cooling paste on the processor and graphic chip.
