How do I replace a broken Nexus One screen?

Now that replacement parts are beginning to become available I would like to know how I replace and troubleshoot my screen.

I shattered my screen after owning it for two weeks. A local repair place replaced the screen but after a few weeks it has become clear that something is seriously wrong with the synaptics.

Where would I begin to troubleshoot and how do I replace the screen if necessary?

thanks

Here is the teardown for your unit. I am not sure what your problem is from your description "seriously wrong". More detail would be helpful. Ralph

Thanks for the reply

The problem: The touchscreen misfires significantly to the point where I cannot use the keypad anymore. Using the 'draw' app I can see that sometimes when I make a simple swipe gesture the line will just continue traveling all over the screen after I let go. I can get slightly better responses after a soft restart but it gets worse pretty quickly. I've done a hard reset as well... it was better for a few hours then started getting worse. It's very inconsistent. Sometimes in the draw app it will not register swipes outside of an "inner" rectangle (same shape as the n1) but offset to the lower right. I can make a video of the behavior if anyone wants to see it.

Flippin weird stuff. The warranty is already void so I'd like to give it a go but not sure if it's as easy to put together as it is to take apart. I've seen the teardown. The shrinking copper foil stuff looks a little intimidating.

thanks

jared

Take it back to the repair place, they screwed up the repair, so you can make them fix it. Sounds like they screwed up the digitizer during the repair. No reason you have to fix their mistake, they did it, they fix it.

By the way, as a side note, unrelated, how do you like the nexus one? I'm interested in one.

One more thing, if you do decide to do a repair yourself, you should make a guide during the process and upload it to iFixit, currently there are no repair guides.

Would be very happy to have a repair guide for changing the screen (completely cracked the screen)... thanks for letting me know.

Will the Newer Sony S-LCD work on older Nexus, which had Samsung AMOLED originally? Anyone knows?

elektrosha! That is a very good idea!

I have read that all the touchscreen issues of the N1 are because its digitizer chip, that is not really multitouch, so "sometimes" the inputs got crazy results... (as in my N1... I have to turn off and on the screen so many times a day to avoid that behavior)

So, does any one knows if there is another compatible digitizer for the N1??

Sony S-LCD will only work on Nexus that originally came with S-LCD and it will not replace Samsung Amoled. Verified. About Replacing Digitizer - it's not hard, but You will need a heat gun (or hair dryer) and some 3M Adhesive to put the new one in place correct way, Also make sure not to brake LCD then You will be taking it out of the casing
