Why is windows disk ungenuine when it says GENUINE on disk?

2 days till activation, this copy of windows says it is un- genuine, I tried installing something off of mediafire but I got a virus called win 7 smart defender pro (solved), should i call ms to tell them it is real and genuine? it even came with a sticker to put on your pc that has its watermarks and stuff, what should i do?

intel core 2 duo, win 7 home premium SP1, OSX lion, and VMware Fusion 5

You neglected to tell us which WinDUHows version you're trying to activate. There are many reasons why this might occur (you inputting wrong data is most likely). Yes M$ is the place to go to solve your problem.

Newer windows releases need to call home via the internet to register them selves. If they can't they go into a locked up state after the warning period.

If you bought cloned version (bootlegged) it will also do this as the serial number & install ID has already been used to the maximum times allowed. Yes, you may think you have a real copy as they can make a very good knock off of the real docs and packaging. Hopefully this is not what happened to you.

As Machead stated you need to call the big Poo-Ba in Seattle to get it unlocked (some versions can be unlocked via a phone call as well).

btw I opened the box and it appeared to be unopened, I already installed this windows without a prob but i reinstalled it, should I call them?

Yep, no other option here. You'll need to prove to them you only have one system running the license.
