Logic Board Piece broke off!

Block Image

I was replacing a power button /proximity on a iPhone 4s and was almost done with the job, until a small piece on the top of the logic board cracked then fell off. The piece is near the the top where you have to fit the logic board into the bezel (in a sliced crack in the bezel's top). The device turns on but stays on searching signal but still conducts phone calls and text i glues it back with crazy glue but i know that was not the correct way to put it back.

My question is.... is there anyway to put the piece that fell of back onto the logic board somehow??

Any answers will be so much appreciated for this belongs to a friend and i kind of screwed up there phone.

Thanks,

Chuck

Hi John,

Thank you so much for your reply back, i very much appreciate it. How can i conduct a solder bridge on a PCB board with no copper or metal exposed to make the connection with solder?? Where the piece is broken off its straight PCB that got chipped off.

Thanks for your help,

Chuck

chuck, gluing the broken piece back on, is most likely not going to work. the iPhone uses a multilayer board, so it is easily possible that some of the internal traces are broken."but stays on searching signal" most likely because that particular region is part of the antenna circuit.

Hey oldturkey03,

Thank you for your reply. So how would you think i can fix this issue? How can i put back that piece from the iPhone's multilayered board back on?

Your help is so much appreciated,

Thanks,

Chuck

There is really no putting it back. The only thing you could try is to see if it will work when you try to apply a jumper from the antenna connector to the nearest point, but even that could be tricky.

I would probably have to UN-glue it then somehow reattach it but how?

da

You really can't. Take a look at the cross section with a microscope and see if you notice broken traces.

Ok, i will take a look at it and see what i can do, thank you so much for your technological wisdom and insight on how to solve these problems.

Hope you have success and good health for many years to come.

God Bless,

Well you need to complete the circuit so you need to make a solder bridge to connect them back together, this will fix the problem so long as you dont let the solder touch anywhere else on the board.

Hope this helps,
