Failure to start up.

Hi,

My Mac air just died on me. It won't start, at first I thought the battery died so I charged it up and I pressed on the start button, no response there.

I hadn't dropped it or there was no contact with water or whatever I could think could be the reason for its failure.

Took it to an apple repair shop & 4 days later they told me the motherboard s kaput. And it's going to cost me 540$ here in Thailand.

What should I do?

That sounds like a fair price for an essentially new MacBookAir. Due to your location moisture probably corroded the logic board (a common problem in the tropics). You may want to invest in Applecare - check first that it would have covered the damage... your environment may preclude coverage/damage.

In future to prevent the reoccurrence whenever possible keep the machine in an air conditioned, humidity controlled environment. When that is not possible store the machine in a closed (sealed) container with a desiccant; uncooked rice is a commonly available desiccant. If not in use for long periods of time change the desiccant every few days.
