Phone dropped, after replacing, home-button still broke?

Hey guys,

let me first explain what happened:

my mother dropped her iphone a couple of weeks ago, and it must have hit the ground pretty hard, because there was a dent in the silver surrounding. Surprisingly, the glass wasnt broken or anything, but it wouldnt turn on anymore. As i have already made experience with fixing iPhones (3g, 3gs, 4, 4s) i knew what parts could cause the phone to not react. I replaced the Dock connector ( because it was broken), reassembled the phone, and turned it on. everything worked jsut fine so i replaced the homebutton too, but it still doesn't work, and reacts as if it was pressed constantly.

does anybody have an idea what now could be the problem?

thanks in advance

If I'm understanding you right the phone now powers up and after replacing the home button it seems to be stuck in the depressed position,, so I would get a new home button and flex cable together and replace them again and when the phone is apart inspect where the button fits into the screen to see if there is any distortion, the circle should be perfect so the home button doesn't get jammed or stuck and can move freely when used, good luck.

infact thats exactly what i did. the place where the button fits into the screen is part of the dock connector, which i replaced as a first step. the button can move freely just like on any other iphone, it does seem to be neither a problem of the home button, nor the dock connector, nor any reassembling mistake. still, thanks for the quick response.

Its a 4 and not a 4S, correct ? Because this sounds like a classic for the 4S, there is a piece of steel on the back side of the home button that do it yourselfers don't usually transfer to the new button not knowing it's there.

Correct. You mean the silver thing that suits for the pressing that sort of popps out ( dont know how to explain it differently)?. I checked on that & its there , i even conpared it to my own phone & it looks similiar.

after some thinking i#ve found to jet another possibly, can water damage cause such problem, especially because its snowing outside, this sounds quite plausible.?
