Domanda Chiusa

Battery Connector in A1237 plastic piece is disconnected.

A friend tried to replace the battery on his laptop. When he did, he pulled the entire battery connector plastic piece from the logic board. Is there anything I can do to reconnect that piece for him or does he need a new logic board?

Nope - soldering on logic boards is very advanced, not really a DIY project. It takes special tools, special solder and lots & lots of practice.

Are you sure the plastic is soldered on? It doesn't appear that it was. The metal underneath most certainly is.

What are you trying to say? You're looking at the piece, not me. You said "he pulled the entire battery connector plastic piece from the logic board" if he did that then he tore the connector off the board. Connectors are soldered to the board. Connectors are supposed to separate... at the connection. There is no way to glue a connector back on the board and have it still make a connection - glue is not a conductor.

I've studied electronics at TAFE, and in my younger years spent 6 years working as an electronics bench technician, mainly with Data Communications and Networking equipment.

I have to say I agree, soldering these sorts of logic boards is not easy, and usually requires at least a couple of years experience (full time). That doesn't just mean soldering anything (anyone can join a couple of pieces of wire together) you need experience with advanced computer type logic boards.

Most of these boards are multi layered (maybe 4 or 6 layers) not just double sided, and are full of very sensitive components. One wrong move and you're stuffed. It is surprising easy to write off a multi layered logic board, neither the board or components can take to much heat.

Having said that if you're exceptionally good with a soldering iron and really know what you're doing it can be done.

I don't know where you live, but it's something I (and probably others on here) would be comfortable doing.

Cheers Paul

Was it only glue you pulled apart? If so, just glue it back in place. If it is solider connections, go to a local iPhone repair person they can probably solider it for $40
