16GB AT&T iPhone4 Leftover part after power button fix?

I had to remove the power button (as well as all components around it such as the PCB, front facing camera, etc) in order to replace the rubber spacer sitting between the power ribbon and the power button to restore the responsive "click" when the button is depressed. After re-assembly, I noticed that when opening the camera app the shutter remains closed and after a period of time (around 30 - 40 seconds), the phone will restart as if it crashed while attempting to connect to the camera. Neither the rear camera nor the light will work. After looking around, I realized that I had one part left over and have no idea where it goes. It does not look like the grounding fingers that I see posted for other iPhone models. I have confirmed that the jumper and ribbon cables are not damaged, so I suspect this leftover part is the culprit.

I have uploaded it to the following location (sorry for the blurriness; I can try to take a better one if needed): http://i48.tinypic.com/kb503.jpg

That part would go under your battery connection and over your cellular antenna connection, check the battery replacement guide by Ifixit

After you put the part in as recommended by Mitch. The part left out has no influence on the camera. If the camera is still faulty, carefully and perfectly reconnect the Rear Camera connector to the Logic Board. Hopefully this will fix the camera, if not next step would be to replace the Rear Camera.

Thank you for the help; I haven't seen that part on any other iPhone before. I completely missed that in the ifixit guide. I suppose that it is entirely possible that I didn't get the camera plugged in completely. Since I also removed the front facing camera, could that have an impact on the rear one or are they independent of each other?

I believe they are independent Joe, I would re check your connections, there's a good chance you'll find something you missed, good luck and thanks for accepting my answer.

Great, thank you again for the info. I will try to initiate a facetime call and if that works, it should prove that the rear camera (or connector) is either defective, or not fully connected. If it does not work, then it may very well be that capacitor that sits adjacent to the front camera.

For the back camera to function correctly the front camera if installed must initialize first. So your steps seem to be good, to verify the front camera works and to make sure the connectors are perfectly connected.
