Total blackout after liquid damage

A friend of mine spilled water into her MBP. Instead of waiting for it to dry, she tryed to reboot with fatal result, it is now completely dead. I think i know the answer if i ask Apple for help, so the question is if there is any chance of fixing it my self.

I have no idea what to look for.

Any ideas?

Thanks/Mik

Update

Thanks Ralph. I´ve stripped it down, but found no visible signs of corrosion. Only sign of life is the battery indicator, so i guess its time for her to go shopping for a new MBP.

Thanks again/ Mik

Teardown the computer using the ifixit guide and thoroughly clean the unit looking for moisture and corrosion. Let dry for at least three days and reassemble. Using only the adapter try to turn on the computer, and if that works try turning it on with only the battery. If both work consider yourself very lucky. If only one works let us know the details to troubleshoot further. If neither works the system board is probably bad. Ralph

Use the teardown guide to the right.

**Note** Putting this info here for another solution idea for future google searches.

If you've tried everything, resetting pram and nvram, smu, os reinstalls, firmware, etc. with no results, don't call it a loss yet. Try one more thing:

1) open the mbp up and look at the logic board

2) look at the IR/Sleep ribbon cable. (Use iFixit reference guide, here's the image

3) Make sure it's plugged in ALL the way. (mine was very loose, nearly unplugged completely)

4) Once the cable is in place, simply reboot :)

Let me know if it works for you.
