Can I fix a slightly separated case?

I dropped my iPod classic 160GB about a foot from the ground. The front and back cases are now slightly misaligned by about .5 mm. I can press the case together with my fingers, but it springs back when I release the pressure.

Is this hard to repair? (I looked at the dissassembly guide, but they didn't have any advice on how to make certain that the case was put back together properly, other than saying to follow the guide backwards.)

Also, would it make any major difference in the functioning of my iPod? I think it works OK now, but would it be more vunerable to dust or other contamination?

mintnowplease, sound like one of the tabs on the back case has either bend inwards or broke off. You can try and take the case apart, check the tab and see if you can bend it up. Otherwise I would just replace the back. By not fixing it, you are running risk of it coming either totally apart, which could rip the zif cable. Of course contamination with dust, dirt etc is always a possibility too.

Thanks - I have a replacement/repair plan from Target (where I bought the iPod). I didn't know it was a serious problem. Now I know what to do.
