robert odonnell, the number you gave is the serial number. A bit further down should be a model number starting with something like A10XX. that would be the number that helps to identify the model. the first thing you need to get is a Firewire Cable and a Firewire AC adapter. they are not to expensive at placed like ebay.com etc. Also, you do need a Firewire port on your computer. first and second generation iPods do not have USB support. The other thing you want to think about is a new battery:-) they are still available. Hook it up to the Firewire port and see what you get. It could just be a bad battery. Start there and let us know what you get. It might sound like a lot, but trust me, they are great to listen to and definitely Vintage:) Hope this helps, good luck.

Okay, that sounds reasonable. what is wrong with it? What does it do right now? What have you tried? How do you know it is a 20GB? Do you have a Firewire connection on your computer or a Firewire AC adapter? What exactly are you looking for?

Just to verify, check the Model number. The 1st gen iPod did not come as a 20GB. It went as high as 10GB, the first iPod to offer 20GB was the iPod Classic 2nd gen. See if you have a cover over the Firewire port.
