I have an Apple MacBook Pro 15" unibody laptop with a cracked lcd. I notice the installation guide on the ifixit website has instructions for the late 2010 model laptop. Are these the same instructions as for the early 2011? They didn't have an lcd guide for this later model.

Yes - they are very much the same, aside from a Thunderbolt port.
Be sure you get the proper tools - either here or elsewhere. Every job is easier when you have the right tools.
