Grazie in anticipo

iPhone 13: iPhone 13 battery drops quickly from 20% to 1% and lingers at 1% after replacement

I recently installed a new iFixit battery in my iPhone 13. The battery behaves strangely: it drops very quickly from about 20% to 1%, and then it stays at 1% for a long time before the phone actually dies.

I have already tried the following:

1. Calibrated the battery multiple times (100% charge + 2 hours, discharge to 0%, full charge).

2. Opened the phone to clean the battery connectors with isopropyl alcohol and ensured a secure connection.

The issue persists despite these steps. Is this a known issue with the battery's BMS/gas gauge, or could there be an issue with the logic board's charging circuit? Any advice on further diagnostics or if this warrants a replacement?

iPhone 13: Safe tools to clean iPhone receiver slit and bottom speaker/mic holes?

Hello iFixit community,

I would like to safely clean two areas on an iPhone 13 and an iPhone 15 Pro Max using the iFixit iPhone Cleaning Kit:
iPhone Cleaning Kit

The issue started after an iPhone 13 was erased and restored. During phone calls, the sound is clear when speakerphone is enabled, but the caller’s voice becomes very hard to understand when using the phone normally against the ear. That makes me suspect the top receiver/earpiece area may be dirty or partially obstructed.

I would like to know if it is safe to clean the following areas externally:

The thin top receiver/earpiece slit at the top front of the iPhone

The small holes at the bottom of the iPhone, near the Lightning/USB-C port, which may include speaker and microphone openings

From Apple’s support guidance, I understand that the receiver or speaker opening can be checked for dirt or obstruction and cleaned with a small, soft-bristled, clean, dry brush. Apple also warns against getting moisture into openings and against using compressed air.

My questions are:

Which tools from the iFixit iPhone Cleaning Kit are safe to use on the top receiver slit?

Which tools, if any, are safe to use on the small bottom holes?

Should the microbrushes only be used on the surface, without inserting them into the openings?

Should I avoid using the curved tweezers, pointed brushes, blower, or cleaning spray near these openings?

Is there a recommended technique to avoid pushing dirt deeper into the receiver, speaker, or microphone openings?

My current plan would be:

power off the iPhone;

remove the case and screen protector if needed;

use only a clean, dry, soft microbrush;

brush gently on the surface;

avoid inserting any rigid tool into the openings;

avoid any liquid near the openings.

Does this sound safe, or would you recommend another approach?

Thank you for your advice.

iPhone 13: iPhone 13 Screen Issue: Horizontal Multi-Coloured Lines

I recently encountered a sudden issue with my iPhone 13 display — banded horizontal, multi-coloured lines appeared across the entire screen, making it difficult to read and use. There were no prior software updates or major changes, and I’ve always handled the phone carefully, using a screen protector and case for protection. The only unusual behaviour I noticed beforehand was the screen occasionally flashing on and off late at night, which I initially assumed was a missed notification. In hindsight, it seems like an early sign of screen failure.

After the issue appeared, I contacted Apple Support, who advised me to perform a hard reset. When that didn’t help, I took the device to my local Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP). They ran diagnostic tests, including multiple reboots, but the horizontal lines persisted. Their diagnosis: a faulty display assembly. Unfortunately, since my device was out of warranty, the repair quote was an outrageous $456.57 USD!

I reached out to Apple again, expressing concerns over the excessive cost, but was told there was nothing they could do and that I should consider buying a new phone.

After looking into this issue further, I found numerous reports from other users experiencing the exact same problem:

Horizontal rainbow lines in iphone 13 - Apple Community

rainbow screen on iphone 13 - Apple Community

iphone 13 - The screen showing horizontal… - Apple Community

Sudden rainbow screen on iPhone 13 mini a… - Apple Community

Why does my iPhone 13 mini have verticle … - Apple Community

Flickering screen issue on iPhone 13. - Apple Community

Display issues with recent upgrade to ios… - Apple Community

iPhone 13 Mini display issue - Horizontal… - Apple Community

Rainbow lines - Apple Community

These are just a few examples — there are many more similar cases.

I still have much older iPhone XR units that have never had any screen issues to this day. Given how widespread this problem appears to be, is there any way to push Apple to acknowledge this as a manufacturing defect rather than an expensive out-of-warranty repair?

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated!

iPhone 13: NFC ANTENNA? Apple Pay and tap not working.

Hey guys,

My Apple Pay has not worked at all. No card machine will recognise my device is there, it worked once since this happened, but not again.

An airtag type device used called 'squid' for tracking loyalty payments which also uses NFC (I assume) also would not recognise the phone. This makes me think there is a hardware issue with something, and not an Apple Pay problem. I deleted and put all my cards back on but the different pay terminals, and this squid tap loyalty thing still didn’t recognise my phone.

So, after seeing somethings about possibly loose NFC antenna plate, or something like that, does anyone have any insight?

Or links to a guide i might use to open up the back of the iPhone, locate the plate and NFC antenna, and check if there is anything out of place from a drop potentially?
