iPad Mini 2 Wi-Fi: Screen flickering but stops when pressure applied!

Hi there,

iPad 2 mini was dropped (whilst in a child’s rubber protective bumper case) and although no visible damage on switching on the screen has lines flickering up it rapidly almost like tv intereference. This stops when pressure is applied just above and to the right of the home button, but reoocirs when pressure is released.

Is this a digitiser issue?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

iPad Mini 2 Wi-Fi: Why is iPad constantly rebooting post battery replacement? See video

Problem: iPad Mini 2 just turns off seconds after turning on and then continues to reboot. At each alternate reboot the screen flashes red before shutting off and turning on again. Please see the short video. It shows me turning the iPad Mini 2 on and shows the iPad rebooting several times.

I am able to turn off the iPad Mini 2 by holding down the power button.

Context: I just replaced the battery of this Wi-Fi only iPad Mini 2.

Possible Useful Info: This iPad Mini 2 was repaired previously. When I opened it up the LCD Shield was bent and screws meant to hold down the LCD Shield actually went through the the metal LCD Shield.

When I received the iPad the battery was completely swollen and had lifted the front screen aka digitizer and did not turn on.

The owner of this iPad Mini 2 was not 100% sure it was a battery issue although seemed like the likely culprit.

My thanks to the iFixit community for your help.

Update October 26, 2020:

I’ve added photos of the motherboard. Both as it was when I installed the battery and then after taking out the motherboard itself.

Additionally owner did say that the reboot cycle with the red screen did occur before the iPad died from a bad battery. It had a charge battery signal with the constant reboot, so they thought it was just a battery issue. Obviously it was not.

iPad Mini 2 Wi-Fi: LCD replacement parts needed?

I replaced a broken screen on my ipad mini 2 the other day. Unfortunately while I was replacing it, my toddler “helped” me by placing his hand on the LCD. When I finished replacing the screen, and tried to power on, i had the white lines and black spots all over the lcd. When I went to the parts store to get a replacement LCD, there is a note at the bottom that says “LCD does not come with foam liner”.

What is the foam liner, do I need it, and where do I find one (couldnt find it listed in the parts store)??? Also, does it come with adhesive attached to it or do i need to get some (and if so what do I use, because that also wasn’t listed in the parts store)?? (Yes I know I need some adhesive strips for the screen then; I already have them in my cart lol.)

iPad Mini 2 Wi-Fi: Screen doing its own thing like touch disease

Hi,

I replaced a digitizer on this some time ago and the customer has come back to me saying the screen does what it wants and types like its got touch disease.

I've done a bit of research into this and I cannot see a confirmed case of touch disease on an iPad. I've cleaned the digitizer and its still acting weird, It also changed the volume on its own too. I have managed to capture it on a video (link provided)

Any ideas what it could be? I'm along the lines of this is a board issue. I suspect there is a problem with a data line or cpu where the Ipad is receiving a bunch of nonsense signals.

iPad Mini 2 LTE: Why tablet won’t turn on after digitizer replacement?

Got a mini 2 cellular tablet from a friend that said someone replaced a cracked digitizer but then the tablet wouldn’t turn on. So now I’m looking at it and when i took it apart the battery connector didn’t seem fully connected in. I checked the ipad with a tristar tester and everything was ok but it said the battery wasn’t connected. After i disassembled it it took a charge with high amps 2.12 or so then gradually went down to zero in the morning. So now reassembled it wont turn on. Strange that person wanted to keep divice after it wouldn’t work for parts… besides replace screen to see if it (suddenly went bad) Can you think of anything that i’m missing ? Thanks for your thoughts !

iPad Mini 2 Wi-Fi: No power after digitizer and LCD replacement

I have an ipad mini 2 that will not power on after replacing the digitizer and lcd screen.

I replaced the digitizer first and tested, at the time everything came back up.

The next day I came back to reassemble and nothing came on. I then replaced the lcd screen with a new one and still nothing.

There is no indication of backlight fuse or filter damage. They look fine.

It makes no sound, and doesn't respond to touch at all.

When plugging into itunes, the device is recognized but I can't unlock it because of the requirement to give permission from the ipad screen.

Any ideas on what the issue may be?

Thanks in advance.

iPad Mini 2 Wi-Fi: Ipad Mini 2 won't boot past black apple screen or turn off fully.

My Ipad Mini 2 won't boot past black apple screen or turn off fully. I have tried hard reset (home button and power) and it just goes black and then has the black apple screen with white apple logo. I also tried connecting it to macbook (itunes won’t launch, and when manually opened won’t recognize ipad). I am using official mac cords and chargers. What else can I do?
