Kindle 3: How to fix horizontal lines on screen?

My kindle froze up and wouldn't reboot. I determined it was the mother board, which I replaced. But now the screen has evenly spaced horizontal lines - like a bad print from a printer with low ink. Is replacing the screen my only option?

Acer Icona W510: My LCD is Leaking?

Literally. I don't mean the screen looks like there's liquid in it or something, I mean there is a clear, sticky liquid leaking out of the tablet part of this laptop.

I have two of these; one has been in storage in my unheated garage and the other in a desk drawer for the last several months. Both of them are exhibiting significant degradation of the display, along with this viscous fluid that's coming out of the seam between the rear cover and the frame of the tablet.

Now before anybody jumps to conclusions, no, neither of these laptops have ever been exposed to liquids; I've been all through them both and there's no external explanation for this to be happening.

And the thing is, I'm not the only one who's had this happen to them on this tablet. There's a whole thread over on the Acer forums of people who've had their laptops do the same thing.

Acer Iconia (W510P) Display Issue — Acer Community

I cleaned up the exterior of the laptop before I thought to take pictures, so I don't have photos of liquid that leaked out. It did clean up fairly easily with isopropyl alcohol.

My current working theory is that this is some sort of OCA that has broken down and returned to a liquid state. That's supported by what I see on the screen before powering it up; it looks like there are large air bubbles in the display.

You can see the bubbles in three corners of the screen. As you'll see from the following pictures, the display degradation is the same as what the people on the Acer forum experienced.

Once I got the back off of the tablet, I did find, as expected, more of the mystery liquid inside, concentrated in the lower right corner of the display.

Apparently there are a few older Dell laptops that seem to have the same problem, but in my internet searches I didn't find anyone who has had a definitive answer as to exactly what's going on here. Are there any experts on here who know what this is all about?

Obviously the displays on these tablets are shot, and unfortunately they're old and underpowered and realistically not worth repairing. However, I am going to go ahead and disassemble them and pull the LCDs to see if I can definitively pin the source to them, although I personally don't have any doubts myself.

This is going to be a bit of a slow process because I've decided to create some guides as I work, so it'll take longer than if I just tear into it.

Once I have the LCD out, I figure it can't hurt to see if it can be disassembled; who knows, maybe I can clean it and replace the OCA and effectively refurbish these defective screens.

Update (12/12/23)

Just as an update, I powered up the second W510 today and while it was messing around with updates I grabbed a photo of what its screen is doing.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1: app is not compatible with my device

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, 10.1 in.

I use Massagebook Pro app from the Google Play Store, on my desktop and my phone. I purchased Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, 10.1 and am installing apps used previously. It's giving me an error message that it is not compatible. So i did the following as it suggested online:

1)I went to About Device, Software Update, and updated my tablet as well as selected automatic updates for future updates. I tried installing app again, and same error message.

2)I went to Applications Manager and cleared the cache and data in Google Play Store App. I tried installing apps and I still got the same message.

3)I called Massagebook Pro company and was informed my subscription and account is paid and up to date and asked if they have an 'older version'...the app that is there is what they have but didn't explain much and didn't know much about apps and compatibility.

4)I have been searching online and found that the "Android OS" is outdated on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 , 10.1 and the apps from Google Play Store are made for newer Android OS's????

how can i fix this?

Tesco Hudl1: Tesco Hudl 1 - blind factory reset

I have this Tesco Hudl 1 which a friend literally found under a hedge, and gave me to see if I could fix it. It takes charge and if you try to power it up there are signs of life (faint screen backlight glow) but no display. However if you plug in an external HDMI screen it produces a display, and even responds to a mouse and keyboard plugged into the USB port. But it boots to a lock screen and I've no idea what the password might be.

I tried a replacement screen but it was no better. Presumably the problem is with the LCD driver. However, it'd be neat and an interesting challenge to get it working with the external screen, mouse and keyboard and possibly to root it.

It should be possible to do a factory reset by pressing the power and volume-up buttons, which should show the system recovery menu, but unfortunately this menu is not displayed on an external screen, and I don't know how many times to press Volume Down to get to the factory reset menu item.

Could someone please tell me the system recovery menu structure and the precise sequence of button presses to do a blind factory reset, including any delays necessary after releasing the power and volume-up buttons before the system recovery menu appears.
