I also tested on the controller testing thing in the settings too test device. is there anybody out there come and help me? because i live in Perry, Ny. and got no car take me to get it fixed

After the USBC Port replacement my Steam Deck still did not charge. I double checked each line from the port to be sure everything is good there now. It had troubles recognizing one of two usb orientations and failed to make the PD handshake. After I checked everything and removed this IC, as I suspected it to be faulty everything startet up again.

Now I can not identify this IC to replace it. It has most likely a marking on it „3m“ and above there is something like an 8. Here are some Photos of the IC that I made. I think it’s size is something about 0,8-0,9mm.

One of the four pads is connected to ground. I think after the Port damage this IC was burnt and shorted to ground, so that’s why it started working now again.

Does anyone know for sure what the replacement part for this is? Thanks!

A while ago, I sent my Steam Deck for repairs to a non-partner store, hoping to get it done quick and cheap. Instead, they royally screwed up the repair. When I had a friend (who's job is to make and repair custom PCs) look at it, they said the L4 sensor was missing, they removed a ton of the cooling paste, and most importantly: a capacitor meant for charging was gone. Without it, it can only charge at 15 watts.

I tried asking Steam Support, but they said they can't help with that. So now I'm hoping someone here knows. What's the missing capacitor, and where can I get a replacement?

So, my steam deck OLED has problem with the screen. when it is on the home menu and I press the backplate of my deck, it shows some stripes and flicker. and when I play some demanding games, sometimes it can stand for an hour, and sometimes it can't even stand for 5 mins. And after the screen goes black, I still can hear the sound of my game e.g. the steps when I walk around / the sound of pause menu and I still can shut down my deck using my feeling while the screen goes black.

When I connect my steam deck to the dock, I have 0 problem. tried to benchmark my deck for hours with hitman WOA benchmark and play some games after that, it works with 0 problem.

But I notice something, when the screen acts up, and I docked my deck, it shows no signal. I had to restart my deck while it is docked so my monitor can get the signal.

What I already do:

Teardown my deck, change the thermal paste, clean the ribbon cable of the screen, clean the connector of the screen on the motherboard.

So, what do you think is wrong with my deck? I asked around, some people said it is the display and some people said it is the CPU/GPU. I had no problem with replacing the screen by myself. but the OLED screen is not cheap, so I just worried if it is not the screen that has a problem.

What makes me worried if it is the CPU/GPU is when my screen is normal, I can dock my deck normally. but when the screen is act up and I docked it, my monitor shows no signal

I’m running into a brick wall after trying to upgrade my 2026 Steam Machine and could really use some hardware-level insight.

What I did:

I opened up the system to add a second 16GB stick of RAM and upgrade the internal NVMe SSD. I was incredibly careful, used a plastic spudger to disconnect internal components, and ensured wall power was pulled well before touching anything.

The Problem:

When booting into the SteamOS recovery USB to install the OS on the new SSD, it fails to detect the drive entirely, giving the error: !! /dev/nvme0n1 does not exist -- no nvme drive detected?.

Even worse, when I swap the original, known-working NVMe SSD back in, the BIOS still reads the storage slot as completely empty.

Troubleshooting I've already done:

Isolated the RAM: Completely removed the new 16GB stick to rule out dual-channel memory training issues or PCIe lane interference. Running just the original factory RAM right now.

Physical Seating: The SSD is fully inserted (heard the click), laid completely flat, and properly screwed down.

Ribbon Cables: Since the SSD slot sits on a daughterboard, I inspected and re-seated the bridging ribbon cables. They latch smoothly, sit perfectly square, and there are no visually bent copper contacts.

Boot Logs: The system passes POST perfectly fine with all green [ OK ] flags, but black-screens right after initializing the graphical interface because the installer script can't find a target drive.

Terminal Diagnostics: Popped open Konsole in the live environment and ran lspci. The system successfully lists the Radeon graphics, Qualcomm Wi-Fi, and USB controllers, but the Non-Volatile memory controller (NVMe) is completely missing from the list.

It seems like the CPU is entirely blind to the storage PCIe lanes or the M.2 slot isn't getting power.

Before I officially write this off as a blown motherboard power rail/micro-fuse or an invisible hairline fracture in the ribbon cable, has anyone else encountered this absolute storage blackout after a dual RAM/SSD upgrade? Are there any specific daughterboard quirks or hardware resets I'm missing?

As the title says, I can’t get the wipe & reinstall to finish. Here’s what I’ve checked so far:

• The new SSD (VIPER VP4000 Mini 500GB M.2 2230 PCIe Gen4 x4 SSD - Solid State Drive - VP4000M500GM23 )shows up in the partition manager, so the Deck does recognize it

• I put the SteamOS recovery image on a 16GB USB stick using the tool recommended on the Steam support page

• Note: the USB stick had ~0.5GB of existing files on it before I flashed it (which I backed up first), not sure if this is causing issues.

Every time I start the reinstall, Konsole opens, executes a few lines, and then just closes, it happens quick, can’t see errors because it closes too fast, no completion, nothing.

Things I’m wondering about:

1. Could the pre-existing files on the USB stick have caused the flash to go wrong? Should I fully wipe and put the recovery img on it again? Would just deleting everything count as a full wipe or do I need to do something else (im on a Macbook).

2. Could the newness of the SSD be causing issues? I can see it in partition manager but haven’t checked whether it’s GPT or something.

3. Is there anything in the recovery process I might be missing? Or anybody had a similar experience?

Any help appreciated: happy to provide more details if needed!

Steamdeck has been feeling a little unresponsive lately then after I left it for a bit (picked up Elden rings finally) I noticed the entire lefts side was completely dead. All buttons, joystick, triggers, trackpad ect. I followed all the software resets to make sure then followed a guide here hoping that if I opened it up it would be a simple disconnect ribbon. As seen in the attached picture the C-L connector appears to have short circuited or something, I am not a tech savvy person and am unclear how to move forward. Would this require a while board replacement or something bigger, any advice on how to move forward or what I could do would be greatly appreciated!

I have a steamdeck LCD. After not using it for a few weeks i wanted to turn it on and play with it etc, the power LED comes on and fan turns, but no display.

Ive tried some guides I found about reseting firmware by holding down "..." and volume down button, it comes on, LED flashes but no display, even after waiting a few hours for this process to complete, I have also tried using a docking station to see if i get any display, now the problem is i dont know if the docking station i used is compatible with the steam deck, but it is a dell self powered docking station, dont want to spend the money if the problem lays elsewhere.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
