I am in a weird spot with upgrades for a few people - someone has a Dell with the i5-9400/12GB/256GB+1TB but I have someone with a Ryzen 5 2400G HP desktop which cannot run Windows 11 -- owner decided against the bypass, but that means I only have 11 months to figure this out :-(. I've "shopped around" with family who owns older PCs who have had them for a few years. One has come up as I suspect they will take an upgrade being they've had it for years (i5-9400). Still a good CPU, but it's older.

The issue is this person crams the SSD and this machine is 256GB+1TB so the SSD took a beating even with 12GB of RAM. It's taken a bit more of a beating then some of the drives I have seen which hover at 2-3%. Is the TBW of this drive known so I can judge how critical an SSD swap will be?

So a little over a year ago I found buried in the dirt a SanDisk MicroSD Card inside a MicroSD to SD adapter, I promptly forgot about it after failing to read it as an SD card with a camera. Today, I freed up the MicroSD card from the adapter to discover it slightly damaged, it's missing a chunk of plastic from a side, however, all the pins are still intact. I failed to read it with Android based readers, and am now wondering if there's a way I can repair it anyhow so it can be used. I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the part of plastic that's missing was an important part or if I can crop together a fix with some cheap materials.

The title asks the question. The reason for it is that I understand aluminum enclosures are better for dealing with heat, unless of course it's got a fan, which this one doesn't have.

I popped it open to have a look, and the only think I saw that looked out of order were these semi transparent things. They look cracked.

What are these, and could they have caused the problem?

They look like fuses to me, and they are non conductive. There's absolutely no conductivity through them. Just OL with a multimeter.

I am trying to recovered data from infinitive usb 2.0 32 gb broken thumb drive. Can someone tell me if I can solder on to the pcb the 6 holes or pads, and which one is data, ground vcc etc.

Recently, I was using my 32GB SanDisk Cruzer Dial in my laptop. I put the laptop in my bag and later that day, I realized that I cracked the PCB near the USB connection pins. I talked to SanDisk, but they said I need to get a new one.... NO!

So which points on the PCB do I solder to so that I can solder an alternative USB to it? A guide with pictures would be helpful. Thank you in advance!
