Air Conditioning: Is it legal to add R22 to my own system?

So I noticed that you can purchase R-22 refrigerant from eBay which I assume is the recycled stuff. If I'm understanding correctly you do not need a license to buy the recycled R-22. Is that correct?

If it is legal to buy without a license from eBay then my next question is can I add it to my own system without any EPA license?

I'm in Missouri, not sure if there are restrictions from different states or not.

Air Conditioning: Carrier Outdoor Condenser Fan Problems -- Spins, but no Cold Air

About 1 month ago my Carrier outdoor condenser fan froze in the middle of the night, the Texas heat, lack of lube, and 24/7 operation killed it. I went out, powered down, took it apart, broke the shaft loose and lubed it, until I could turn easily with fingers, and powered it back up, started right up, been working and blowing cold air ever since.

Today, in Austin, it hit 112F+ at my house a few hours ago, the motor just shut down. I went out there, and manually gave it a little spin, spun back up, and is spinning well.

I suspect the run cap has had it too, so that AND the motor need to be replaced. But, its 10pm, nothing is open, house is 90F inside, and the AC is NOT working?

Something happened? But what? The system was cooling very well, it was 74F in here, 112F outside, then the motor stopped (as it does periodically when it gets the temp ahead of the setting), and then it couldn't start back up. But, how do I go from cooling fine, to NOT cooling fine from one minute to the next?

The motor is spinning, I tried turning power off, resetting, checked the controller in attic, LED is running good, no error codes.

So, I am at a loss -- the motor needs replacement, and the run cap, but, it running right now, and the system should be cooling, but its not. What else could have changed in a matter of mins?

I could understand if over 2-3 weeks it got warmer and warmer, need coolant, but it was freezing air, now it warm.

I am an EE, not an AC guy by any stretch, but I assume maybe a cut off, safety of some sort was tripped, but a power cycle, and that should do it right? And this carrier doesn't seem to have a RESET on the condenser, but even if it did the motor wouldn't spin as it is right now --

Please help -- I am dying here, and have a ton of computer work, PCs are over heating as I write this...

Thanks --

Air Conditioning: Stripped screws to A/C breaker

I am trying to replace a breaker for my A/C and I can't get the screws that hold the wires in the old breaker. I think both of them are stripped. I bought a cordless drill this morning on the way to work and it is charging now but if it doesn't work to remove the screws I am wondering if I actually have to have these screws out to get the breaker out. It seems like the screws are holding the breaker in as well as holding the wires in the breaker. I am asking because if they are not holding the breaker in the panel then would it be possible to take the breaker out and cut the wires off close to the breaker and peel down the insulation and put them in the new breaker? This is Houston, mid-March, it's getting hot! HELP!

Portable Air Conditioners: How to Disassemble Sharp Air Cooler PJ-A200TV-B? Pump Replacement

I own a Sharp air cooler (PJ-A200TV-B) and the water pump has failed, most likely due to our Malaysian water quality causing mineral buildup over time. The fan still works fine, but without the pump circulating water, it’s basically just blowing normal air.

I’ve removed every screw I can find on the unit, including the obvious ones at the back and bottom, but I still can’t fully dismantle it. It honestly feels like this thing was designed never to be opened. I don’t want to force it and risk cracking the plastic clips or damaging the casing.

Another reason I need to take it apart is to properly clean the internal fan, as there’s quite a bit of dust buildup inside. I can only clean the exterior and filters, but the fan blades themselves are hard to reach without opening the unit.

I’ve searched online for a teardown guide or tutorial video but couldn’t find anything specific to this model. I did find a Facebook post from someone who replaced the pump before, but he hasn’t responded to my message. Maybe he’s no longer active.

I’ve already sourced a compatible replacement pump from Shopee, so I’m ready to fix it myself. I just need guidance on how to properly open the unit and access the pump without breaking anything.

If anyone here owns the same model or has experience taking apart Sharp air coolers, I’d really appreciate any advice, photos, or step-by-step tips. Thanks in advance.
