Story Telling Alf not playing cassette

I have a 1987 Storytelling Alf that I replaced the batteries for, it turns on fine, and the ears, mouth and eyebrows move for a split second when i turn it on, but no sound comes from the cassette tape. Ive replaced the cassette several times with some different ones. Any suggestions?
