So I got a Lenovo ThinkPad l580 a month ago and the USB C port has slowly become worse and worse to use until now it only charges at a certain angle and if you push in.
My question is would be how much it would cost to repair by a technician in the UK (I have done soldering work but not on SMD level). If it's too expensive I may try to do it myself and buy some of my own tools as I guess it's a useful skill. Here in the UK the laptop is worth around 150 so I doubt it would be cost effective to repair a usb port by a shop.
My concern is that is it just the USB port. The centre plastic piece is a bit looser than other ports but the pins look fine. However, the metal crease (that you see in cheaper usb C cables) has actually broken apart in the port.
Lastly, is the laptop meant to charge from both usb C ports? The other one works fine and provides fast charging for my phone but it won't charge the laptop. This made me wonder if the charge chip was broken as my brother's Lenovo L380 charged with both usb C ports.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I will practice my soldering on some old micro usb connectors and I know I need to order a hot air station to repair this connector.
