Mini docking station VGA port not working

My 2 laptops share external monitors. I got a SMKLink USB-C 100W docking station because both monitors use vga only. the VGA port works when hooked up to the Dell computer but not the Lenovo. Both laptops are recent models using intel i7.Is there anything I can do to make the VGA port work on the Lenovo? Is it a software issue?
