You could have some luck, since the flex cable could simply needs cleaning (isopropanol 99%).

Iff there is no differance, than you'll have a problem with the backlight of the device. Some iPad 3 and iPad 4 are know for problems with the backlight on one side of the screen. Just search on google for "ipad backlight half" and you'll find enough information.
