Not a complete answer, but my attempt (Late 2008 Macbook Al Unibody): When I plug the power adapter into another computer (where it works fine) and then plug it back into my own, the LED lights up orange before fading out. Does this indicate a loose connection somewhere in the power delivery system? The battery (brand new Apple replacement) and power adapter both work as they should in other computers. Currently the power adapter is used as the computer's power source, and while it indicates that the 'battery is not charging,' the battery does eventually charge over an extended period of time (10+ hours). The MagSafe DC in board has been replaced once before (about two years prior to the occurance of this 'battery is not charging' issue) due to water damage. I'm not sure what triggered my computer to no longer want to charge the battery.
