Introduzione
Spesso queste due tecniche di stiratura si utilizzano in modo intercambiabile. Entrambe richiedono l'uso del ferro da stiro, ma sono una diversa dall'altra. Stirare è un'azione che consiste nel passare il ferro da stiro su un tessuto o una cucitura.
Nella tecnica a pressione il ferro da stiro viene posizionato direttamente sul tessuto o la cucitura, tenuto fermo per un po’ e poi sollevato. Il ferro, quindi, non scivola avanti e indietro sul tessuto. Questa tecnica permette di stirare i tessuti delicati o a maglia larga (come la seta e il lino) e di togliere le pieghe senza rovinarli. La stiratura classica, invece, toglie le pieghe dai tessuti resistenti ed è particolarmente adatta ai tessuti grandi e a un solo strato. Una volta scelta la tecnica più adatta, man mano che si stira, si deciderà se usare o meno il getto di vapore. Si consiglia di provare dapprima stirando a secco, usando il vapore solo per le pieghe più ostinate. Prima di stirare a vapore, assicurarsi che il tessuto in questione non si danneggi con l'acqua del vapore.

Quando si stira una cucitura nel modo classico, girare il capo al rovescio in modo che la cucitura sia visibile.

Infilare il tessuto sull'estremità dell'asse da stiro, con la cucitura rivolta verso l'alto, in modo da stirare un solo strato di tessuto alla volta.

Per stirare a pressione una cucitura girata al rovescio, aprirla separando i due lembi di tessuto.

Prendere il ferro e appoggiarlo direttamente sulla cucitura.

Non muovere il ferro, lasciarlo semplicemente appoggiato sulla cucitura per un intervallo di 10-30 secondi. Sollevarlo e ripetere l'operazione.
