Although you specify "reverse threaded", you confuse the issue by saying "counterclockwise." You mean counterclockwise from the drill's perspective, but that's counter-intuitive. Many folks will assume clockwise or counter from the screwdriver's perspective. It would help to make that clear. Same applies to step 3 where the photo makes it clear you mean clockwise from the drill's perspective, but since your're unscrewing the allen screw, I would tend to interpret it from the allen wrench's perspective, which would be counterclockwise. Thanks for providing this instruction set.

Clockwise or counter clockwise? Image shows counter clockwise but directions say clockwise…

If Allen wrench loosens the truck clockwise as written wouldn’t you be hitting it the other way ? Not sure if I’m not understanding correctly or reading something wrong. Thank you

I agree with Jan. This does not make sense to me and i have been twisting this stupid thing for 3 days.

Your comment ‘The chuck screw is reverse threaded, which means you will need to unscrew it counterclockwise. ‘ is nonsense.

A normal screw is counterclockwise to unscrew.

What you meant to say was

‘The chuck screw is reverse threaded, which means you will need to unscrew it clockwise. ‘

You might also like to add the the screw is often coated with loctite and very difficult to remove. A high quality tool and plenty of force may be required to remove this screw.

I think the clockwise thing wasn’t that hard to understand, but personally, my chuck screw was actually quite easy to remove so it wasn’t a problem for me

Here’s a short video on how to fix a chuck on drill. The screw that holds the chuck to the drill broke and needed to be extracted, and replaced.

I think my problem is exactly what your video shows - screw holding the chuck broke - but the link does not work. Can you give a good link or better description of the video? (There are many on removal of the chuck, and I can't find this one). Many thanks!

To commenters, it’s 2 separate procedures.

First your removing the SET SCREW (step 1 & be sure to look at all 3 pictures). The internal set screw is reverse threaded & removes by turning CLOCKWISE.

Then, your removing the CHUCK (steps 2-4). The chuck removes in a COUNTER CLOCKWISE direction. Also, when removing the chuck you are supposed to slide the gearbox into the lowest torque position (#1, not #2 or #3).
