Repairing Nespresso Aeroccino Plus Motor

  1. Repairing Nespresso Aeroccino Plus Motor, Heat: passo 1, immagine 1 di 1
    • Heat up to 50°C/120°F in oven in order to make the clips inside smooth.

5 minutes was just to short, I broke one pin but that is no issue at all. Suggest to warm a bit longer.

    Rosanne Van Beethoven - Replica

Yes, warm it until 45°C . You can measure the temperature with an IR thermometer.

    Teodule - Replica

I have put into the fryer. 80degrees one minute.

    • Open the bottom with a strong screwdriver. Be careful not to break the clips inside

    Heinz Kohut - Replica

I’ve used the paper clip method of chaindriven ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9xC9jnJ... ) and it worked really great. I even skip step 1.

    Yoann Arpin - Replica

It is not obvious to open with a screwdriver. Actually because it is not adapted to offer a proper leverage. The paper clips method works better but you need to have a coupke of screwdrivers ready to be unserted in the openings.

    Teodule - Replica

We used 41mm binder clips and that was perfect and like the comment above we did not need to use the oven of step 1.

    • Pull out the circuit board and the motor. After module is removed the on/off pad must be pressed in/through

Tumbs up!

    Siegfried Dunkel - Replica

I was at first wondering why this was needed but of course when the mechanism is put back you can't set it with the power button in place. The power button goes back in after the base and motor are in place and power button on motor is aligned with the hole for the silicon power button.

    • Check motor operation by pulling connector and applying 9V with an external power source (battery or bench supply) to the plug.

    • If the motor turns with reversed polarity then proceed by swapping black and red contacts leading to the motor. With a little flathead screwdriver press the contact spring, pull out the cable.

    • If the motor only turns by applying external power and a little twist or not at all, only solution is to replace the motor. Mabuchi RF-500TB-12560 is readily available on the internet.

Yeah, I'm curious to know why/how reversing the motor leads would have any positive influence on this fix.

    Cameron Miller - Replica

Yes! Strange, I really don't know. Someone told me this trick and it worked out great.

    VauWeh -

My frother was turning a few times and then stopped. reversing the wires fixed the problem and now it runs backwards but that doesnt matter.

    rractivand - Replica

I changed polarity and it works !!!

    Thanks for this great advice.

    Tianda Halley - Replica

When motor is not turning this is mostly due worn out drag/brush contacts. On the edge of the commutator sections contamination builds up resulting from the spark when brush contacts jump from one part to another. On which side the edge get contaminated depends on direction of rotation. Nevertheless brushes are often so far damaged, reversing direction works only (if at all) for a very limited time of operation. By default motor is installed with rotation resulting in pulling brushes. If rotation is reversed by swapping polarity, brushes get pushed and since they are most likely in bad shape already, chances are real brushes get crumpled.

Better recommendation for long term solution is to replace motor by a new Mabuchi RF-500TB-12560, they are readily available on internet. When connecting, pay attention to direction of rotation making sure a pulling force applies on the brush contacts for longevity.

    H.Brok - Replica

Thanks for this. Even after swapping motor contacts, my motor still doesn’t work and voltage is ok on the pins. I need to replace the motor, but I can’t detach the little magnets holder from the motor without breaking it, in order to re-attach it on a new motor. Any idea ?

    Phil Barbier - Replica

Answer to myself ! : I managed to get the plastic magnet holder off with no problem with a simple flat head screwdriver. It’s much easier after removing the motor from its plastic enclosure. Then the plastic magnet holder just slips on the shaft quite easily.

    Phil Barbier -

What if the motor working but need to replace the Temperature Sensor?

Can u advise what model and where can buy it?

    shahar gil - Replica

Perhaps you can find a used one?

    VauWeh -

    Didnt succeed yet…

    shahar gil - Replica

Yes, as incredible as it sounds changing the polarity **** WORKS****. Many thanks, my neighbours are very happy (it isn't mine). THANKS

    Teodule - Replica

Thanx , it worked here in the Netherlands.😁

Absolutely brilliant. Reversing the polarity worked for us in Germany as well. Thanks for experimenting and sharing your findings.

    • Carefully embed the thermal contact in conducting paste. Then press bottom into body until you hear a clic three times. At last switch must be pressed in.

    VauWeh -

War super einfach und es funktioniert

    Danke

    peter - Replica

Can you please tell me what kind of conducting paste to use? Thermal or electrical? Is there a specific brand you recommend. I have no experience but would like to try and fix my frother. I understand all your instructions so I am hopeful. Thanks - Carol

    Carol Nurmi - Replica

Open the device and follows all steps, it's easy. You can use the old thermal paste, there ist enough of it in thermosensor, just spread it using a screwdriver. Good luck.

    VauWeh -

Many thanks!

I couldn't believe reversing polarity would work, but it did!

J.

jeroenvaneijk - Replica

Yes, it's a miracle. :-)

VauWeh -

If reversing the wires solves your problem then it was just a loose or poor contact at the switch causing the problem.

You are not switching polarity when swapping the wires. Like a light switch, it only serves as a connection/disconnection point for electrical flow.

ekao -

Groh - Replica

worked for me as well, although I destroyed 2 of the 3 clips when opening - but it seems to stick ...

Christoph schwaiger - Replica

"backing" was the missing link to open it.

Thanks a lot!!

I used paper clips to lift the bottom (based on a video-clip by chaindriven, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p9xC9jnJ...)

Changing the polarity at the motor was easier for me than changing the pins in the connector.

Christian - Replica

sorry, forgot a remark:

check the quality and spreading of the thermal paste. It´s necessary for a good contact between heating plate and sensor.

Re: question by Georg Sunkler: I fixed my Aeroccino two years ago using the above method and it worked well until recently when the same symptoms appeared. I again carried out the above and it worked for a few tests with water and then the the motor started running weakly and stopped. I opened up again and this time removed and opened the motor and cleaned the motor’s commutator and brushes with a small, fine file and reassembled. The motor now spins very strongly again. I think what happens it that over time the motor’s commutator and brushes build carbon from the tiny arc that is part of a normal motors running until the carbon buildup reduces strength and the motor stops working. Reversing the polarity and running the motor in the reverse direction has the effect of cleaning the carbon off the brushes and the commutator and for a time it works well until carbon builds up again at which time a thorough clean of the motor, as described above becomes necessary.

Ronnie - Replica

grethlein - Replica

Great!! Fix done!!!

I have combined the ideas warming up it in the owen for about 1/2 hour at 50degC, just to be sure that the inner plastic was less fragile.

I have pulled up the bottom plastic then, by using the paper clips in the above video. That’s worked very smooth. no one plastic clip was broken.

Then the problem…. Yes, in my case it was a problem with motor “brushes”. I have cleaned up by a generous use of R-11 contat cleaner spry. I activated the motor several times alternating aboundant R-11 sprayed, until everyting seemed to be ok. I reassembled everything in a few minutes (just re-distribute the termic paste on the surface of the termostat).

In my opinion the best care of this tool is to use it regularly so that the motor "brushes" can auto clean up by the use.

Thanks a lot to you all for sharing your experience.

Danke!

paulsmolen - Replica

Great solution, works perfect and easy to do. I could do this with using only a simple swiss pocket knive. Now happy hollidays again with cappucino!

Rosanne Van Beethoven - Replica

It worked! When i pulled the bottom plate with the engine etc the magnet on top of the motor popped out, this is easy to put back in its socket. Jus be carefull not to damage the springs of the socket and its cap. The magnets only fit in in one way. Work carefully and try not to touch the contact grease. Then you can just scoop it a bit together on the heating plate using something non metal like plastic and youll be good to go. Otherwise you will have to apply new grease. Thanks a lot for this post!!

J Week - Replica

Genial, muy bien explicado y muy práctico. Solo dos cuestiones:

joseraid - Replica

Pues yo no sé la explicación. Es un miraculo. Hay teorias, puede leerlos más arriba.

VauWeh -

Didn’t work for me. Attaching to a 9V battery works in both directions but putting it all back together and still no light or power. Is it the base or a problem with the button? Thanks

soren carlsen - Replica

Prima, vielen Dank! Tausend Dank!

Hi, does anybody knows how to fix an Aeroccino 3 that doesn’t heat ?

Edgard - Replica

Thank you VauWeh. What if the problem is the circuit board? Are those available online as well?

natsblau - Replica

There are parts available for Nespresso, e.g. here, but I do not know, where to buy the circuit board. Perhaps you can find a used one? Good luck.

on my areoccino the issue is different, the spinning doesn't stop to work, how to reset it or repair, probably the timer functions is not worting anymore, please, can you help me?

Jose Carlos Bernardes Oliveira - Replica

Sorry, I never saw this before and have no idea.

VauWeh -

You don’t need to throughout the motor . You can take motor apart and adjust carefully the brushes inside. Push brushes closer to the shaft and it will work.

Nikita - Replica

How do you get the plastic casing off the motor, please?

cjglover1 - Replica

Hi, I don't see how you can get the plastic casing off the motor without breaking it. Also, to replace the motor, the plastic cover will need to come off the magnet. How do you do this??

cjglover1 - Replica

Läuft super, danke. Allerdings ist trotz vorwärmen vom Plastk was abgebrochen.

claudini - Replica

Good idea to switch the wires. Reverse turning is maybe a sign the motor is starting his last live ? Or next time I try dismanteling motor and see if there is need to ltlle bit oil ? Or just cleaning Inside ?

chris vuylsteke - Replica

Muchas gracias.

Intercambiar los cables y ya funciona

Julio Blanco - Replica

Servus!
