    • Use a nylon spudger to pry the chrome cap at the bottom off.

Cover the toothbrush with a thin towel or some cardboard, then take a pair of pliers or channel locks and squeeze the corners to slightly deform the case. That will give you some room to get under the cap.

    • Use a nylon spudger to release the black tabs on either side of internals.

This is the most difficult part but it can be done once one understands how the tabs that need to be unlocked are designed and located. The difficulty is in seeing the tabs -- they are black - and especially the way they lock in, on the body.

There are two tabs - one each side - built on the internal frame holding the battery and electronic circuitry. They are pushing towards the outside, and each locks inside a recessed hole on the internal side of the toothbrush body.

They are most effectively unlocked by going deeper with the spudger and unlocking them by going behind them and hooking them from below, going in from the top opening. IMPORTANT NOTE The tabs need to be PUSHED from the outside TOWARDS the inside of the unit, i.e. towards the chassis that holds the battery and electronics. Trying to pushing the external toothbrush shaft from above will only damage the mechanism. The only way - on this latest Sonicare model- is to unlock these two black tabs.

    • Remove rubber covers from the top of the motherboard and the back of the battery.

    • Using a soldering iron, remove the solder from the three marked spots.

    • The pins are labeled "F1", "R6", "JP1"

Translation from Felix : "Do not remove solder! Just heat it up and put pressure on the battery. Soldering point JP1 not necessary. Only R6 or negative pole"

    • After de-soldering, the battery should be loose. If this is not the case, spend more time removing the solder.

    • When the battery comes loose, gently wiggle it out and away from the device.

    • Carefully reinsert the new battery into the same spot as the old one. Gently press until it is firmly pressed against the toothbrush.

    • Green batteries have a black horizontal stripe at the top on the green wrap. That is the positive terminal that goes towards the top of the unit

    • Apply a small amount of solder to the three points shown to attach the battery.

    • The pins are labeled "F1", "R6", "JP1"

    • Replace the rubber covers on the motherboard and battery.

    • Reverse the case replacement guide to finish putting the toothbrush back together.

Photo here is unclear, but there are two small black posts on the circuit board that the rubber cover needs to line up with. Gently press down on the cover, and be sure that the side clips (of the rubber cover) and engaging the sides of the circuit board.

Translation from German friend/contributor which was helpful: "The instructions are a bit misleading in step 6, there are only 2 soldering points, the battery only has 2 soldering tags as you can see. One at F1, the other at R6 and JP1. The bottom arrow in the picture pointing to JP1 is wrong. I recommend completely removing the solder with a desoldering pump with a silicone tip because the battery is firmly clamped in a plastic socket and is difficult to remove only by heating the solder and there is also an IC right next to the lower soldering point. You should be very careful when soldering."

I recommend to soak the bottom of the brush in a cup of warm water to make it easier to remove the bottom cap. The plastic is very easy to crack when cold.

This is a decent guide. Thank you to the author! Problem is that they don't make these devices user serviceable, so we basically have to pry and force the cap off. ARGH! RIGHT TO REPAIR NOW!!
