    • Gently disconnect the top section of the camera from the body.

    • Don't pull the top section off too hard or the wire and ribbon within the camera may disconnect.

Between step 6 and step 7, you removed the central plate (part) with Nikon logo; how did you remove it (and the plate (part) opposite to the battery chamber) since autofocus selector seems to prevent to remove the central plate (part)? That being said, it does not seem necessary to do that to remove the film door... but there is a ribbon attached to the body on one side and to the film door on the other, which prevents to remove totally the film door so how did you do?

    • Turn the camera over to reveal the film door.

    • Remove the film door.

The back door can be replaced without dismantling the camera. First remove the ribbon cable cover on the back door, note the light seal foam will have to be gently lifted. Once the ribbon cover has been removed unplug the ribbon cable by releasing the ribbon cable lock, there is a directiol arrow moulded into the lock bar. (on my camera the lock was a brown colour) Then remove the long hing screw from the base of the camera. That's all that is required to remove the back door, take care not to lose the top hing pin.

To replace the camera door, simply unscrew one screw under the door and three screws in the door to disconnect the cable that connects the camera to the door.

Uscamera.com carries them.

It's unnecessary to disassemble the camera to this extent. You just need to disconnect the ribbon cable (which involves removing the spring loaded guide next to the door hinge and unlatch the connector underneath) and unscrew the door pivot screw on the underside of the camera. This document lays it out quite nicely:
