Introduzione

If you have a legacy HP LaserJet HP no longer supports (or doesn’t provide a “modern” driver for, and the “legacy” driver no longer works, like the LaserJet 1012), or you want a single driver that works for multiple printers this guide will show you how to install and use the HP UPD on your Windows system.

Note: Some printers often have problems with their respective model specific utilities using this driver. This commonly affects older models like the P2015, P2035, P2055 and M401 series. Newer models like the LaserJet Pro (JetIntelligence) series may accept both, but I have not tested it, and cannot guarantee it will work.

Note: While HP typically ships the UPD with newer printers, it is often customized for that series, and is usually required to use printer utilities. IN ORDER TO GAURANTEE USE THE PRINTER UTILITIES, YOU MUST INSTALL THE SPECIFIC DRIVER. I WILL NOT BE TESTING THESE PRINTERS SINCE IT VARIES SO WILDLY.

  1. Due to the general nature of this guide, specific languages are not covered. The HP UPD supports PCL6, PCL5 and PostScript. Find out what print languages your printer supports. This printer (LaserJetPro 400 M401n) supports PCL6, PCL5 and PostScript. PCL6 is recommended for this printer. If you use USB, plug your printer in now.

  2. I knew what my printer used and what driver was ideal in advance. Download the best driver for your printer. Once you know what print languages your printer supports, download the best one for your printer. The driver can be found on the HP website.

  3. This method copies the UPD files onto your computer. If you connect a new printer and don't install the printer specific driver, this can be used in place of the model specific driver. At the installation screen, select USB mode- Plug and Play. Once you select the mode, pick the options you wish to use. While these settings can be changed, leave it as-is unless you understand what the change does.

  4. This installation method only works with networked printers. USB IS NOT SUPPORTED. After the driver loads, agree to the license agreement. Once you agree to the license agreement, you will be asked which installation mode you want to use. At this point, select Dynamic Mode and click Next.

    • After selecting Dynamic Mode, click Next. The printer driver will be installed, along with a universal printer.

    • Once the driver is installed, additional configuration is required. Your printer will need to be configured using the IP address that was assigned to it. This is a manual process.

  5. This install procedure is required when using the HP UPD as a substitute driver (primarily for legacy printers). Note: If you have a failed Dynamic Mode installation, this can be used to correct the error. If you are installing the printer over USB, USB_001 is considered "safe". Unless you use a special configuration, this port is the best for compatibility. NOTE: Older printers like the LaserJet 1200 and 1012 often use DOT4. If this is the case, DOT4 must be used. If you see a DOT4 port on your PC, you may have one of these printers. Find Devices and Printers. The location varies based on which version of Windows you run, but this can be found in Control panel. Windows 8.x: Search for "Devices and Printers"; Windows 10: Search for Control panel and find Devices and Printers.

I bought an HP printer specified by laserjet. I have followed a few steps to install this printer via HP UPD. at first search for the correct driver, then install it first in a USB mode after that in dynamic mode. then set the configuration pf printer and after completing all the steps just print once for a test.
