Oil changes are important to preserve the life span and performance of a car's engine. The standard is to change a car's oil every 3000 miles.

Make sure that the engine is turned off and that the keys are out of the ignition

Place the floor jack on the jacking point, located on the passenger side behind the front wheel.

Raise the car high enough to place the jack stand under the car. Make sure the stand will have solid contact with the car frame.

The jacking point has a lip and is at the edge of the car (boxed in the photo). The lip of the jacking point should fit into the opening on the jack.

Slowly lower the car onto the jack stand by using the floor jack.

When the car is secured on the jack stands, remove the floor jack.

Use the 14 mm socket wrench to loosen the oil drain plug. After a few turns, use your hands to loosen the plug until it is off.

Allow the oil to completely drain into the pan.

Use a rag to wipe around the opening for any remnants of the oil.

After the oil has drained, screw the oil drain plug back onto the car. Hand tighten as much and use a 14 mm socket wrench to tighten about a half turn more.

Locate the oil filter from either above or below the car (The images are from above).

The oil filter is located below the engine and aligned horizontally, facing the front of the car.

Place the oil drain pan under the filter.

Unscrew the filter by hand. Turn the filter counterclockwise if looking at the filter from the front.

Wipe around the area where the filter was settled.

Take the dip stick out and wipe it down.

Place the dip stick back into it's original place.

Turn on the car and let it idle for 30 seconds, then turn the car off.

Take the dip stick back out and check for the oil level. The level should be between the two bumps on the dipstick.

If low, add more oil until within the two bumps.

Turn the car on and look under the car for any leaks. If there are any leaks, turn the car off and tighten the area where it is leaking. For example, if the oil is leaking around the oil filter, tighten the oil filter.

If there are no problems, turn the car off. Then put the hood support rod down and close the hood.

Clean up the surrounding area and throw away all trash.

Take the used oil and filter to a local auto-parts store or dealership. They will take it and recycle it for you.
