    • Turn off the vacuum and unplug it from the outlet.

    • Lay the vacuum on its top so that the brush bar faces you.

  2. Dyson DC14 Brush Bar Replacement: passo 2, immagine 1 di 3 Dyson DC14 Brush Bar Replacement: passo 2, immagine 2 di 3 Dyson DC14 Brush Bar Replacement: passo 2, immagine 3 di 3
    • Using a quarter, turn the three soleplate fasteners 90 degrees to the left.

    • Holding the soleplate on both sides, tilt it down and away from the vacuum.

    • Remove the soleplate from the vacuum.

  3. Dyson DC14 Brush Bar Replacement: passo 3, immagine 1 di 2 Dyson DC14 Brush Bar Replacement: passo 3, immagine 2 di 2
    • Turn down the squared tabs on the brushbar so that they face outward.

    • Use a screwdriver to pry the belt up from the brushbar.

    • Be careful not to cut the belt with the screwdriver.

    • While holding the belt, pull the brushbar to the left and remove it from the vacuum.

    • You can let go of the belt when it's free from the brushbar. The belt will not retract into the vacuum.

    • During reassembly, insert the brushbar with the tabs facing outward, then rotate the tabs up to lock the brushbar in place.

Some models don't have the clutch mechanism, but are driven directly from the motor (and the belt cover which is shown as the clutch cover is now part of the soleplate); in that case, it may be simpler to just remove the belt from the motor spindle.

If you've had the vacuum cleaner more than 2 or 3 years, consider changing the belt at the same time, they are not expensive

Too bad it don't work that easy when reassembling the drive belt over the brush roller. Dyson should reinvent another way and drop dead!

mikemo69 - Replica

Make sure you get all 4 tabs back in before you close it up. It IS a ##&&% to do on some models.

mjpotter - Replica

What bout putting the Belt back on? Or does it Put Itself back On The Roller????

Missing Steps!

RE-insert brush bar? You mean insert new brush bar? (Not reinsert the old one like in the picture because after all this is instructions for replacing the brush bar right?) Aakkk!

At the bottom it says "to reassemble follow these instructions backwards"...something like that.

Excuse me I have to scream now.

Thanks, I got you and I know what you meant. Thanks for taking the time to help others.

Is there a certain way to sit the brush on so that it can spin?

Easy-peasy! My DC 14 Animal is 15 years old. This is its first set of new brushes. My carpet looks new! The install took only five minutes, including looking for a beefy screwdriver. The instructions were easy to follow, just required one to read ALL the material. Thanks every so.

Bikerlady - Replica

Literally takes two minutes.!! The hardest part was holding the belt clear enough to slide the new brushbar into place. I replaced the soleplate at the same time.

Thanks for your brilliant simple instructions!! Made my life so much easier :-)

belt is not turning the brush bar , and the belt is not broken , is this something i can repair my self.

The Dyson DC 14 is a piece of CRAP! It is very poorly designed. I would never buy another one.

Hal Merriman - Replica

These instructions suck. First they assume familiarity with the inner workings of the device. Second there are insufficient visual identification of parts and devices. I've busted a knuckle attempting these “simple" instructions.

Dennis Elias - Replica

Good machine. Crap instructions.

How long should the bristles on the bar be? Mine are currently at 1/4 inch or a little more. Is that too worn down or do you think it’s ok?

Andrea Gerber - Replica

Mikemo69, may I have your vacuum?

VAL PRESTIDGE - Replica

I will kill this %#*@ thing!! I just want to put the brush bar back !!

barbyhansen - Replica

WOW! What a difference a CLEAN brush bar makes when sweeping! Needed an extra hand when pulling on belt to release and reinstall brush bar, but otherwise went smoothly! Thanks for the step-by-step pics!
