ASUS Chromebox 4 SSD / Memory Replacement

  1. ASUS Chromebox 4 SSD / Memory Replacement, Create a recovery USB: passo 1, immagine 1 di 1
    • Especially if you are replacing the SSD, you will need the recovery USB to reinstall ChromeOS on the new SSD, or the Chromebox won't boot.

    • Follow the instructions from Google's website to create a recovery USB stick: https://support.google.com/chromeosflex/...

    • You will need an USB stick with at least 8GB of capacity (the contents of the stick will be overwritten!) and a system running the Chrome browser - so it's easiest to do it on the Chromebox before taking it apart for an upgrade.

  2. ASUS Chromebox 4 SSD / Memory Replacement, Remove the feet: passo 2, immagine 1 di 1
    • Gently remove the feet of the device. They are glued on using soft glue and should come off easily.

  3. ASUS Chromebox 4 SSD / Memory Replacement, Remove the screws: passo 3, immagine 1 di 1
    • Remove the 4 screws you uncovered by removing the feet.

  4. ASUS Chromebox 4 SSD / Memory Replacement, Remove the top: passo 4, immagine 1 di 1
    • Gently remove the top. Take care of the connector cable that links the power input socket with the motherboard.

  5. ASUS Chromebox 4 SSD / Memory Replacement, Update RAM/SSD: passo 5, immagine 1 di 1
    • You can update the SSD by removing two screws (the WiFi card needs to be removed first).

    • To test the machine without putting it back together, you can use an USB-C laptop charger to power it temporarily.

    • If you replaced the SSD, you will have to use the recovery USB created on the first step to restore the operating system.
