Background and Identification
For further repair information, refer to the iMac Intel 20" EMC 2266 guides. This is almost the exact same device.
Introduced in March 2010 as an upgrade to the iMac Intel 20" EMC 2266 (Edu), this model comes with a faster Intel Core 2 Duo processor at 2.26 GHz. It is otherwise identical to its predecessor; both devices feature a 20-inch display, 4 USB ports, and a 160 GB hard drive. Thus, you can use the same repair guides for both models. See the link above for more guides written for the previous model. You can identify this iMac by looking under the stand for the model number A1224 and EMC number 2316. Neither is a unique identifier, but together they can pinpoint this exact iMac.
This iMac was sold with either 1 GB or 2 GB of memory. It is located behind a user-accessible door on the bottom edge of the device. You can upgrade the memory to at most 8 GB (two 4 GB sticks). The iMac also came with a 160 GB hard drive inside. This is a standard 3.5-inch form factor hard drive that can be upgraded or replaced if it breaks. You could also speed up the computer by installing an SSD inside, but take note that you will need a 3.5-inch drive to 2.5-inch drive adapter bracket because most SSDs are manufactured in the smaller form factor.
Other components in the iMac are serviceable, including the speakers, optical drive (this is a likely component to die at some point), Wi-Fi board, and fan.
