Identification
There are a multitude of ways to identify the model name and number. Most MSI laptops have a large sticker just below the keyboard. If not there, check the bottom of your laptop for a sticker. It could also be printed inside the battery compartment.
If it is able to be turned on, typing Help Desk into the search box with bring up the app where the model name will be listed on top in red.
If there is no app to be seen, typing System Information will bring up a summary of the laptop's information, including model name.
Otherwise, when MSI logo shows up as the laptop is starting to boot up, keep tapping the "Delete" or "F12" until you the BIOS Setup Utility pop up. This could take several attempts.
Background
The MSI GS65 Stealth Thin was a high-performance gaming laptop known for its sleek design and powerful specifications. Originally released in 2019, its blend of portability and performance made it a powerful gaming machine. The laptop features a 15.6-inch display with thin bezels, this is a common point of failure since the outer case specifically around the screen would crack and cause screen issues such as uneven backlighting and light bleeding. The Intel 8th generation Core i7 processor and Nvidia's GTX 1070 Max-Q graphics card offered great graphics and is lightweight compared to bulkier gaming laptops at the time. The GS65 series is also recognized for its customizable RGB keyboard which over time would dim but didn’t affect performance, it also has extensive connectivity options, making it a versatile choice for both gaming and professional use.
Specifically, 2019 MSI GS65 Stealth 8SG is an upgraded version, featuring Nvidia Turing graphics and a handful of minor improvements. While the addition of Ray Tracing alone did not warrant the steep price of the RTX models, the approximate 20% boost in gaming performance leaned those who wished for that edge in FPS shooters and cooler operating temperature thought to be upgraded saw issue primarily with the fans running hot and sounding loud.
